Weird stuff going on with my '14 Soul

I have a 2014 with 180k miles and it is acting a little weird. Recent maintenance made it run smoother, but my gas mileage dropped!

on the freeway, when I hit the hills at 70mph, it feels like a major struggle like its losing speed big time. Once it levels out or goes downhill, power's back to normal. No check engine light though. I've noticed also sometimes when I accelerate, it hangs onto gears way too long and makes a weird noise like maybe a pulley?

Could all this be one big issue? Any ideas what might be going on? I'm all ears for suggestions!

Hahaha, you got a needy one right there. But don't blame it, it's served you for 180k miles already. That's still good. I guess it could be a clogged cat or weak fuel pump you're having problems with due to that distance.

It might also be useful to consider what recent maintenance was performed just before the mileage change when investigating the transmission or belt system for those gear-holding and noise issues.

It sounds like your engine might be losing some power under load or the transmission isn't quite happy. have you tried checking this with a dealer or a mechanic? they can defnitely help you narrow down the cause

Here's another angle, it's like either your fuel or air flow is off. Check for a dirty filter, a weak fuel pump, or a bad MAF sensor. That noise could be a bad belt tensioner or a slipping belt.

Did you recently clean the fuel system or change the spark plugs? Take a look at the belt and try cleaning the MAF sensor. Does it happen more when your gas tank is almost empty?
